Playing With Fire - New CD Releases
The most notable release this week would have to be Kevin Federline’s Playing With Fire. We try not to give bad reviews, so decide for yourself by hearing a clip from it. If you decide you like it, you can hire him to show up at your parties; if not, then enjoy watching him get punched out in this YouTube clip.
Also new this week is The Black Parade, the latest by My Chemical Romance. New Jersey’s own emo-punk sensations keep doing their thing, only BIGGER. The sound is bigger and more expansive; it sounds like they’re trying to fill a stadium with sound, like the hard-rocking bands that influenced them. If you like the emo sound but also like the big & loud rock of groups like Queen and Guns N’ Roses, you’ll like this.
If you want a different kind of rock, we strongly recommend the latest by Sparta. The former members of At The Drive-In who didn’t join The Mars Volta are staying true to their punk/hardcore/emo roots. Threes. Threes is like a breath of fresh air; it sounds like classic punk and hardcore, without copying any old-school bands. They’re unique and powerful — two things you can’t say about most rock groups nowadays. (If you’re not into hearing something new and different, there’s always the new Paul Stanley, Live To Win. Yes, THAT Paul Stanley.)
Nellie McKay just dropped her latest, Pretty Little Head. Her pop composition and sort-of-hip-hop production create songs that are bouncy and sparkle with life. Here, she duets with other great singers like Cyndi Lauper and k.d. lang. There’s also Go: The Very Best Of Moby. It’s an overview of the better work of Moby, one of the men who brought “electronica” to the mainstream.
