Playstation Brings You Home

Playstation Home

Sony has lagged behind both Microsoft on the online gaming front, not delivering anything to gamers that can compete with the Xbox 360’s robust Xbox Live system. Xbox live lets people play online together, download demos, arcade games, and updates, and lets people compare how well they’ve done in games via the “Accomplishments” system. Overall, it’s been a huge success and Sony has yet to go after a piece of the online market. That looks to be changing, however, with the introduction of Playstation Home.

Playstation Home looks like it’s a combo of Xbox Live, Nintendo’s Mii’s, Second Life, and the Sims. It’s a virtual world that gamers can create avatars to inhabit, complete with their own houses that they can decorate with their own photos, music, and downloaded furniture. There are also public spaces such as arcades that you can meet friends in and play arcade games, as well as movie theatres to download movies and a giant hall of fame to show off your accomplishments. Home should be launching in the near future, and it’ll be free to all Playstation 3 owners.
