Pre-PMA Camera Announcements!
PMA is an annual trade show for the photo-imaging industry. What it means for you, however, is NEW CAMERAS! This year’s unofficial theme is “more features for less money”. PMA 08 starts on January 31, but new cameras are already being announced. Here are a few of the choicer models, with features that caught our attention:

Nikon Coolpix S520 — has Food Mode for close-ups of your favorite culinary creation without using flash.

Nikon Coolpix D60 — boasts split-second shutter response and the ability to take up to 3 pictures per second for as many as 100 consecutive JPEG images. Also includes active dust reduction, which consists of four frequencies which vibrate the image sensor’s low-pass filter, dislodging dust particles.

Olympus FE-350 — combines a 4x wide-angle lens and an extra-large 3” LCD, so you won’t miss Cousin Larry at the outer edge of your family portrait.

Fuji Finepix F100fd — detects up to 10 human faces in a scene, automatically correcting focus, exposure and b/w balance. The F100fd can even identify faces at extreme angles, up to 360-degrees. Want to shoot in a dark environment? Fuji claims truly impressive ISO settings of up to 3200 at full resolution and ISO 12800 at reduced res.

Pentax Optio M50 — features Evolved Face Recognition and Smile Capture mode, automatically capturing your squirming kid’s brief smile. The M50 also has a Panorama mode, which stitches a series of three images into a wide scene while still in the camera.
The three new Canon A-series cameras — A580, A590IS and A470 — are inexpensive and packed with features. And the new SD1100 is a small, stylish Elph, which comes in colors like Bohemian Brown or Rhythm & Blue.
Look out for new cameras from Sony, Kodak, and Panasonic in the next few months; you’ll see the highlights here.
To see pictures of the cameras (it’s usually the other way around) at PMA 08, visit the PMA 08 Flickr Group. And, of course, there are serious price reductions on the previous camera generation at JR.com. Browse here.
Make sure you keep checking back because we will have more info on the latest camera announcements at PMA over the next couple of days.
