Firefly Mobile, designer, developer and manufacturer of the industry’s first Firefly Pre-Paid Cellular Phone for Kids received a Red Herring 100 Spring award. Red Herring made the announcement in San Francisco on May 2nd this year.

“When we first entered the mobile phone market, this category of phones did not exist,” says Don Deubler, Founder Firefly Mobile. “There was an untargeted market segment that required addressing the needs of both parents and children and we are proud to be the first cell phone company to do so. We are thrilled to be recognized by Red Herring as innovators in the industry. It’s quite an honor.”

“Having received more than 800 submissions, it is clear that we are witnessing a new outburst of creativity.” says Joel Dreyfuss, Editor-in-Chief of Red Herring.

Red Herring’s annual lists of top private companies are an important part of the company’s tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google, eBay and Skype were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors, and touted as leaders that would change the way we live and work.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Red Herring 100 Awards.
