Samsung Unveils Dual-Format HD Disc Player

Samsung has just announced their new, third generation HD Disc player (yeah, it’s already the third generation. Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess.), the BD-UP5000. What makes this player so special? Well, it can play both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs, to start. That’s something.

As we all know, the Blu-ray and HD DVD format war has been raging for some time now, leaving consumers cold. Why invest in one or the other when you don’t know which format will last or what movies will come out on what type of disc? Screw it. If you grab a BD-UP5000, you can play either format. And unlike other dual-format players, it can fully utilize all the features of both formats, including the online features of HD DVD with a built-in Ethernet jack. It pumps the signal out in 1080p via HDMI, so the signal will be as clear and as crisp as humanly possible. It’s time to take the plunge.
