Scientists Working on Way to Charge Gadgets Wirelessly
As we discover more and more gadgets that we just must own, our outlets are getting more and more cluttered. Who can survive on just one outlet these days? A power strip is pretty much par for the course in most apartments, what with laptops, MP3 players, cellphones, PDAs, and who knows what else all sucking up juice. This leads to the problem of cable clutter, and while getting a surge protector that hides your cables is a good start, getting rid of cables altogether would certainly take care of the problem completely. Sound nuts? It isn’t.
Scientists in Britain are working on a way to get things juiced up through the air. Yeah, rather than your wireless devices sucking up juice by being unplugged, they’ll get charged that way. Using a concept called resonance devices will be able to charge from afar without the airborne electricity damaging people or objects in between. Unfortunately, the technology won’t be ready for consumer use for a while, but it’s nice to know that the rat’s nests of cables we have under our desks won’t be there forever.
