Single-Speaker Surround Sound Works Somehow

Yamaha YSP1100 Digital Sound Projector Speaker

Nothing beats surround sound when you’re watching a movie at home. It places you inside the movie and makes you feel like more than just an observer, especially when you’re watching action movies with lots of sound effects. The problem with surround sound is that it’s a pain to set up: you need a bunch of speakers, all connected to a receiver with tangles of wires. When you’re totally lazy, that isn’t a very good option.

Well, lazy movie lover rejoice! There’s a solution for people who just get plum tuckered out after setting up a single speaker. The Yamaha YSP1100 Digital Sound Projector Speaker looks like it’s just a long, rectangular speaker, but it actually contains 40 surround sound speakers in its slim casing. These speakers are then set up to give an illusion of surround sound, even when mounted on the wall above the TV. It comes with two subwoofers for the low end sounds, but there are no satellite speakers necessary and no wires to snake under the carpet. It’s an elegant solution to the surround sound problem, and one that looks great when paired with a wall-mounted flat panel TV.
