Slingbox Place-Shifting TV Software Now Available for Macs
The Slingbox, everyone’s favorite way to watch their TV from across the country, is finally available for the Mac. Formerly only able to be enjoyed by PC owners and Mac owners who didn’t mind rebooting their new Intel Macs into Windows to use it, the much-loved application can now be enjoyed by just about everyone.

If you’re wondering what the heck a Slingbox is, let me fill you in. It’s a wee box that you hook up to your cable box, DVR unit, or TV and then plug into an Internet connection. You can then use the Slingbox software to watch and control your TV from anywhere on a computer or PDA running Windows Mobile. Not just a few channels, but your TV, including your DVR controls, OnDemand, and Pay-Per-View. Sling Media recommends using it for doing things like watching your local news while away on business or setting your TiVo to record something when you forgot to do so before leaving the house. Less scrupulous people might do something like hook it up at their parents house so they can watch their old local sports teams without paying for cable. I’ve never done anything like that… no siree. There are three flavors of Slingbox available: AV, Tuner, and Pro. Check the product pages to find out which one is best for your setup.
