Congratulations are in order for Sony. They will finally release an entry level Profile 2.0 blu-ray player with built in wireless connectivity. I don’t understand why it took them, or any other CE company so long for that matter. The PS3 has been rocking Wi-Fi since November 2006. Better late than never I suppose. Introducing the BDP-S360. It does everything we have come to expect from a Profile 2.0 player. Internal decoding and bitstreaming of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio is a go. BD-Live is a given since it’s a Profile 2.0 deck. 1080p with 60 and 24 frames video playback etc. Yeah, all that is pretty much standard stuff now. What’s exciting about this player and others that will follow it, is that we finally have a standalone players that have built in Wi-Fi trickling into the market. No more running ethernet cables to your router for firmware updates and BD-Live content. It just makes life a whole lot easier. The BDP-360 will be available in May. Click here to pre-order one. Addendum - It was brought to my attention that the Sony BDP-S360 is not the model with built-in Wi-Fi, but rather it is the Sony BDP-S560. Everything in this post can still be applied to the BDP-S560, which should be released in July.
