I make no bones about it, I prefer plasma displays to LCD displays. LCD panels always left a lot to be desired when it came to black levels, color accuracy and fluid on screen motion. Video is ruined if you can’t get deep, rich blacks. It’s what makes everything else “pop”. Weak, grayish blacks certainly will not immerse you in a home theater environment. Imagine night time scenes where the dark hues and the evening sky was light gray. Total buzzkill!!
Thankfully, LCD technology is moving on up. It’s advancing at unprecedented levels. So much so that this plasma lover has taken pause and noticed. One display that caught my eye was the Sony KDL-52XBR6. Apart from the slick styling, the first thing I noticed was how dark the blacks were. No easy feat, I’m used to the epic darkness of the Pioneer Kuro. Intrigued that an LCD could indeed display rich blacks, I further investigated what the set had to offer.
Naturally of course, it has a resolution of 1080p. Anything else would be uncivilized. It also uses Sony’s patented Bravia processing engine, so the images are crisp, sharp and most importantly accurate. Incorporated into the display is 120hz motionflow that minimizes judder and other motion problems inherent with LCD technology. In short, this is the premier LCD display on the market today. Don’t just take my word for it, watch the CNET review below. Their rating speaks for itself.
