Why is it that devices like the Sony rdr-hx dvd with hard drive recorders are so tough to find? They seem like an optimal solution to recording not just your old vhs tapes, if you already have a vhs player, but also a means of recording television programming directly to a hard drive. For some reason no one seems to sell them though?

The DVD that this device burn can play with any regular dvd player? I have a lot of VHS tape wanted to convert, so just simply connect my old VCR to that device with those red, white & yellow cable isn't it? What about if connect TV to this device? Will it record TV program directly?

Sanny, you can record tv broadcasts by connecting it to your DVR, and it is 5.1 capable.
