Sony Puts Flash Drives in Their Ultraportable Laptops

Sony VGN-TZ190N

Believe it or not, traditional hard drives are on their way out. The platter-based drives we’re used to won’t be around much longer, what with their noisy, slow, and energy-sucking ways not needed anymore. Instead, we’ll use flash drives, the same type that’s used in portable devices such as the iPhone. As prices finally drop for larger and larger flash drives, we’ll start seeing them placed into computers.

It’s already started happening with some high-end laptops. Take this Sony VGN-TZ190N/B Ultra-Portable Vaio TZ Series Notebook PC, for example. It has a 32GB flash drive inside instead of a traditional HDD. This makes it lighter, weighing a mere 2.7 pounds, lets it last longer on the go without needing a recharge, and lets it boot up much faster. It’s what we can look forward to seeing in all laptops in the coming years, and it’ll be a welcome change from what we’ve got now.
