Sony Vaio VGC-LS25E: Combines TV and PCs in One Slick Package

Sony Vaio VGC-LS25E

Look, we can all see that TVs and computers are headed on a direct path towards each other, so why not cut to the chase? It’s pretty apparent that people like watching videos on their computer and they like having access to information and on-demand programming on their TV, so there’s no real reason to keep them separate anymore. Right?

Well, maybe. There are certainly a lot of benefits to having a separate TV and computer, but I’m not suggesting that you toss out your big screen TV and replace it with a laptop. No, that’s not a good idea at all. But for places where a small TV makes sense, such as the kitchen, it might make more sense to combine the TV and the computer. This Sony Vaio VGC-LS25E All-in-one Desktop PC is a 19-inch TV with a computer slapped on the back of it. You can watch regular TV and DVDs on it, then also use it to check email, surf the web, listen to music, and do whatever else it is you do with a computer. It saves space, it saves time, and it just makes sense. Why fight progress?

Last February 6th, we produced and posted this video of this elegant product when it first arrived at J&R Computer World. Check it out.

I saw this in the store and it is totally cool. At first glance, I thought it was just like an iMac. But, it's better because it's got a wireless keyboard (not just a remote, like the iMac) essential for it very handy for sitting back on the couch in TV mode and the Sony has the TV receiver built-in, so you don't have to buy EyeTV software like you do for iMacs. Of course, you have to suffer Windows while using it, but the Vista Home Premium which contains the Media Center functions shouldn't be that nasty. The salesman said you can record off the TV and burn to DVD disc. I can't believe Sony allows this -- did they suddenly get smart? But, really who cares about discs these days? I'd just shove any recorded files off to an external drive. I can't decide whether to get this (it is really slick looking) or wait for the Apple TV thingy.
