STM’s Evolution: The “Mercedes Benz” of Backpacks

I call it the Mercedes Benz of laptop backpacks. STM’s Evolution has all the bells and whistles that you could ask from a backpack, while providing the extra protection that you need for your laptop. The Evolution is a cool looking backpack. It’s sturdy, yet comfortable. My computer is my lifeline and I carry it around with me all the time. I needed a bag that would protect it from the elements (including a cramped, bumpy bus ride uptown), and also allow me to transport it around the fast moving streets of NYC with comfort and ease.

The Evolution is cradles my laptop so that it is completely protected on all sides, even the bottom. This way, when I throw my backpack on the floor at the end of long day, it does not get damaged. Another nice feature is that the laptop compartment conceals my machine so that when I open the backpack, you can’t see that it’s in there. I think this provides an extra level of security, because, with the Evolution, opening my bag while on the subway won’t necessarily mark me as a target for theft. After all, a thief is not likely to steal something they don’t know you have.

My absolute favorite feature, however, is the built in rain cover. At the risk of sounding like ditz, it’s so cute. Beyond that it is very functional and extremely effective for keeping all the important stuff, including your laptop, dry. This is especially important for people like me that regularly brave rainy weather with no umbrella.

The Evolution is comfortable and easy to tote around. The design of the bag was made to fit snuggly on your back and has both a waist and chest strap to stabilize the load. It even has small removable pouch on the arm strap that I can use to keep my cell phone handy, keeping me mobile. It has a bunch of pockets so I can organize some of the smaller items I carry around like pens, thumb drives, and my external hard drive. It even has a hook for my keys! To some, this may sound petty, but as I’m sure many others can relate, it can be very frustrating to get stuck outside your house for what feels like an hour because your keys have gotten buried at the bottom of your bag.

Overall, the Evolution is a great product. It has all the extras that you could ask for, but stays true to its main purpose, which is to keep your laptop protected during transport. It gives you several tools to keep your items well-organized and facilitates an easy and comfortable commute.
