2012 was the year that tablets with 7-inch screens became really popular. Driven by e-reader popularity, the 7-inch screen is perfect for reading e-books and playing games. They are light and compact, easy to handle, and easier to fit in a bag. Popularity shot up with the release of Asus Nexus 7, in WiFi and 4G versions, and Android’s latest Jelly Bean operating system. The Nexus 7 led the pack of 7-inch tablets. By year’s end, Apple broke through the 7-inch pack with the iPad mini, sporting a brilliant 7.9-inch screen.
And now Samsung enters the fray. Unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this past month, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 is an advanced Android Jelly Bean tablet with an 8-inch screen.

I have to admit up front that I have never owned a serious set of headphones. My music listening is usually reserved to instrumentals (movie scores) and a select few vocal artists. In this arena I have always relied on the guidance of family and friends that happen to be dedicated audiophiles. So a good friend of mine loaned me a set of Monster’s new Noise Cancelling Headphones aptly dubbed Inspiration. I was hesitant to return them to her after my listening experience.
