  • Apple’s iLife Turns Your Mac Into a Multimedia Machine

If there’s one thing Apple is good at (besides designing electronics that people are immediately drawn to), it’s making basic computer and media tasks intuitive and easy for people who aren’t computer geeks. The cornerstone of this is their iLife suite of software, which includes programs to help you manage your photos, home videos, website and music easily.

First, you get iPhoto, which makes importing and organizing your digital pictures extremely easy. It organizes your photos into “rolls” for easy sorting. Want to share those pictures online? You can use the included .mac Web Gallery to quickly and easily set up a site full of galleries of your pictures.

You also get iMovie, an intuitive video editing program, and iDVD, for burning your masterpieces to DVD when you’re done. Want to add backing tracks to your flicks? Garage Band is also included, which is a music-making program as easy to pick up as it is deep. Rounding out the package is iWeb, a website-making tool that’ll allow you to build your own home page on the web without needing to know any code or the nitty-gritty details behind having a web presence. All together, iLife aims to be the cornerstone of your media on your computer, and by making it so easy it might just become just that.

  • Apple Announces New iPods

They have been talked about for awhile now, but they’re finally here…new iPods!

Earlier today, Steve Jobs announced the latest upgrades to the reigning kings of the mp3 market.

    Here’s the rundown:

First off, new iPod Shuffles: The Shuffle will be available in a new color…(PRODUCT) RED. Proceeds from the sale of the (PRODUCT) RED Shuffle will go towards fighting AIDS in Africa. New iPod nanos: Besides excellent audio playback, these slimmer and sleeker nanos will now have video playback, games and a built-in stopwatch for your workouts. The screens will be larger (2 inches), brighter and have a much better resolution (320×240 pixels). Also included will be Cover Flow capability, where you can scroll through the album covers in your library. Video playback will be up to 5 hours and audio playback will be up to 24 hours in a single charge. Colors available will be red, black, silver, blue, and green. The silver nano will be 4GB, while all colors will be available in 8GB. New iPod Classics: They will retain the click wheel interface, but will be much thinner than previous generations. One charge will give you up to 40 hours of audio playback. The iPod Classic will come in two sizes: the whopping 160GB ($349) and the 80GB ($249). And finally, a new product all together…the iPod Touch. The most anticipated announcement of the day was not a disappointment. Ditching the “classic” iPod look, the new iPod Touch will now look very much like the iPhone. It will feature a larger multi-touch interface (3.5 inch widescreen), video & audio playback, Cover Flow capabilities, and most excitingly wi-fi support for 802.11 b and g networks. One charge will give your iPod Touch up to 22 hours of audio playback and five hours of video playback. It will be priced at $299 for the 8GB and $399 for the 16GB.

Whatever your budget, whatever your preference, these new iPods got you covered.

  • The iMac Makes Technology Fun

When it comes to getting a simple, beautiful, and powerful computer, it’s tough to do much better than the 24-inch iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo. So if you’re looking to jump into the computing world head-first, go ahead and embrace the iMac.

  • Apple and Nike Team Up to Help You Run

You already use your iPod to listen to music while you go jogging, so why not let your iPod help you exercise in more ways than one? The Nike + iPod Sport Kit will turn your iPod nano into a workout companion like no other.

Simply insert the transmitter into your sneaker to track how fast you’re running. The iPod will then select tunes automatically that will sync up with your pace, helping you to keep on trucking through those tough slogs. It’ll also keep track of your runs for you, allowing you to get instant feedback on how you’re doing. You can then track your efforts on your computer later on, setting goals that you can try to match and making competing with yourself a viable reality. So don’t just listen to music while you run — let music help you run.

  • Hype Breakdown: Apple iPhone

You’ve probably heard a thing or two about this new phone Apple is releasing, the iPhone. What’s the fuss all about? Let me break it down for you.

What makes the iPhone so exciting to geeks everywhere is that it has a giant touchscreen and only one button on the front. All the controls are on the touchscreen, which is multitouch. That means you can use multiple fingers to control it, and it’s much more intuitive than your standard touchscreen. The iPhone is also a new iPod, storing all your music, and it can surf the web too. See why it’s so cool?

It’s not perfect, however. The data network it uses, AT&T’s EDGE, is much slower than other 3G networks, making surfing the web on it away from a Wifi hotspot a chore. It doesn’t have some basic features, like picture messaging and voice dialing, and, well, it’s really expensive. Some people are planning to wait for a new version next year that upgrades to a 3G connection, adds GPS, and reinstitutes some of those missing features. So, now it’s time for your decision: is it worth it?

  • Use Any Headphones with That iPhone

The iPhone is all the rage at the moment, and while its features as a phone and web-surfing device are awesome, one thing that people seem to forget is that it’s also a brand new iPod. Which means you’ll be listening to all your tunes on it as well as making calls with it. But, unfortunately, it has a unique minijack, meaning you won’t be able to plug your normal headphones into it. At least not without an adapter.

An adapter such as the Belkin F8Z177 Headphone Adapter for iPhone. It’ll allow you to plug any set of headphones into your hip new phone/iPod, letting you listen to music with something a bit better than the standard earbuds that come with it.
