It’s a good time to be a headphone enthusiast. I recently blogged about the Sennheiser HD800, so it would only be right for me to blog about the other upcoming flagship headphone from Grado, the PS1000.
The first thing you notice about the PS1000 is the striking resemblance to the previous flagship model, the GS1000. Don’t think that the PS1000 is simply a metal housing version Continue Reading »

While portable audio players like the iPod are amazing for toting around your entire music collection in your pocket, they don’t work so well in the car. I mean, not only is driving with headphones in a dangerous thing to do, but I’m pretty sure it’s quite illegal as well, and you don’t want to mess with that.
What’s someone with a big, iPod-bound music collection to do on the open road? Get yourself set up with a Venturi Mini, a little device that acts as a connection between your car’s stereo and your music player or cell phone. It can get music playing on your stereo, so you can leave the headphones safely in your pocket. In addition, it acts as a mobile charger, making sure you don’t run out of juice in the middle of your road trip. It’s a much safer (and much more legal) way to listen to music off your portable audio player in the car than the headphone-related alternative. You want to be safe and legal, don’t you?

If you care about your ears and don’t want to be one of those old folks who needs to have things repeated four times before they understand it, you really shouldn’t listen to regular headphones in places like airplanes or subways. The engine noise in these places is so loud that it forces you to blast your music to hear it over the roar, which does a number on your poor ears.
What you need is a pair of noise-canceling headphones, such as these Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-cancelling Headphones. They work by taking the low-end sounds that come from airplane engines and subway tunnels and creating frequencies that are exactly opposite. They cancel each other out, allowing you to listen to your music at normal volume without needing to compete with the surrounding noise. They even work when no music is playing, giving you a nice bubble to be in if you want to attempt a nap on an airplane.
Do you like listening to music with headphones? It’s the best way to listen to music the way it was intended to be heard, after all. You really get to hear all the nuances in the recordings, making you feel like you’re right in the studio with your favorite bands. But all headphones are not created equally.
These Denon AH-D2000 Around-the-Ear Headphones are a step above the headphones you’re used to, to say the least. They’ll reproduce your music so well that you’ll be able to hear feet scuffing on the floor of the studio, not to mention the full range of every note played. And sure, they might cost nearly $3,500, but this is music we’re talking about. You don’t mess around with music. Do you really want to trust a crappy pair of earbuds to the music that shapes your life? I don’t think so.
The iPhone is all the rage at the moment, and while its features as a phone and web-surfing device are awesome, one thing that people seem to forget is that it’s also a brand new iPod. Which means you’ll be listening to all your tunes on it as well as making calls with it. But, unfortunately, it has a unique minijack, meaning you won’t be able to plug your normal headphones into it. At least not without an adapter.
An adapter such as the Belkin F8Z177 Headphone Adapter for iPhone. It’ll allow you to plug any set of headphones into your hip new phone/iPod, letting you listen to music with something a bit better than the standard earbuds that come with it.
