    We were saddened to hear the news today that Van Cliburn had died, at the age of 78. He was without a doubt one of the greatest pianists of the 20th Century and a friend to J&R. We treasure his memory and the great recordings he has left behind. Here’s the obituary from the New York Times, which does a great job of summarizing his importance to classical music.

  • Hurricane Sandy and J&R

    We hope that you are all safe in the wake of the devastation brought by Hurricane Sandy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our friends up and down the coast.

    As many of you know, we have been a cornerstone of Lower Manhattan for the past 40 years. Our Park Row stores sit Downtown between the East and Hudson Rivers in an area that has been heavily affected by the flooding. As a result, some of our operations have been negatively impacted. We’d just like to let you know that we are doing our best under trying conditions to return to service as normal.

    As of Thursday morning 9/8/11, barring seriously inclement weather (i.e. driving rain and/or thunder and lighting), the Earth, Wind & Fire Concert at South Street Seaport in Downtown NYC will go on as scheduled.
