    FLASHBACK ’71: As part of J&R’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, we are looking back at the history of Downtown New York City.

    Today is the anniversary of the 1865 fire that brought down P.T. Barnum’s American Museum that was on Ann Street and Broadway until 1865. It was perhaps one of New York City’s first major attractions. That’s the same Barnum that’s associated with the famous circus.

  • A Brief History of Park Row as Newspaper Row

    FLASHBACK ’71: As part of J&R’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, we are looking back at the history of Downtown NYC and J&R’s place in it.

    Park Row was not the original name of the New York City street where J&R has its headquarters. It was originally Chatham Street, thus the neighborhood near New York’s China Town is called Chatham Square. In 1857, these were the buildings at Park Row and Ann Street.
