The HDMI 1.4 specification adds support for extremely high video resolutions that go far beyond today’s 1080p systems. 4K is shorthand for 4,000 lines wide by 2,000 lines high, or roughly four times the resolution of a 1080p display. The term actually covers two formats, both supported in the HDMI 1.4 specification: 3840 pixels wide by 2160 pixels high and 4096 pixels wide by 2160 pixels high.
Over the past three years, Samsung and LG demonstrated 4Kx2K televisions at various shows. While they and other TV manufacturers are hustling to earmark a 2012 consumer release, the technology seems way ahead of the consuming public.
According to Reuters, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd will become the world’s largest smartphone maker this quarter, overtaking struggling Nokia, which has lead the market since 1996. Samsung will take the top spot while Apple’s iPhone moves to second place. Nokia will occupy the third spot.
The big factor, however, is that Apple has now decided to market the iPhone 4 as an unlocked GSM cellphone. This means you’re not stuck at negotiating a deal with Verizon or AT&T. You can seek out your own favorite GSM provider, wherever they are. Obviously, the unlocked iPhone 4 is selling at a much higher price than the locked version.
Now that iPhone is ready for the open market, as are Samsung models, how long will Samsung reign as Regent of the Smartphone class?
Samsung is a tech company that knows how to improve on a product and get it into the hands of the public. Many stores are already carrying one of their top-selling cellphones, the Samsung Galaxy S, that has an ultra-bright, energy saving Super Amoled display.
Their latest innovation promises to change the design of cellphones completely.

One of the trends appearing in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is Internet Embedded TV. So far, HDTV leaders like Sony, Philips, Samsung, Panasonic and LG plan to offer Internet capability on selected TV models. Peer-2-Peer (P2P) Internet TV has been one of the alternative marketing means to provide streams of audio, video, and informational channels via broadband Internet connection through TV. Online streaming businesses like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora have been negotiating with TV manufacturers to set arrangements for the creation of P2P channels. One of these is Skype, famous for offering discount telephone calling via Internet.
Internet Embedded TV helps shift programming from Internet sources in direct competition with current Cable, Satellite, and Broadcast methods. This will open an entire new flow of TV entertainment through broadband Internet access.
Unlike a PC, TV is primarily a receiver. Websites need to embed their software as channels into the TV’s circuitry for initialization through broadband access. Continue Reading »

The cream rises to the top, at least that’s how the saying goes. However, when it comes to consumer electronics, nothing could be further from the truth. In this arena, mediocrity reigns supreme. The life of an electronics enthusiast and early adopter is tough, just ask Laserdisc and HD DVD fanboys. However, the one constant [...]
When it comes to TV, Samsung is a mainline leader and innovator in the United States market. In cameras, however, it’s hardly noticed. It takes a backseat to dominators like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, and Kodak. After two years of research, Samsung is set to introduce two point-&-shoot cameras in September 2009. These employ a dual-view screen concept offering a front screen as well as a rear screen. Samsung has also adopted Schneider-Kreuznach optics for professional quality images. The Samsung TL220 and TL225 appear ready to move ahead and bring Samsung a leading spot in the digital camera market.
Samsung’s Dual-View concept lets you view the subject on the traditional rear screen while the subject (whose picture is being taken) can view self on the front LCD screen. Continue Reading »
