Take Your Books on the Road with Sony’s eBook Reader

Are books totally cramping your style? Do you think that we should be able to carry up to 160 books at once? I mean, we carry tons of music on iPods everywhere we go, so why not books? Some of us like to read, but it would totally suck if we had to lug books around all day. We also don’t want to be bothered with stuff like turning pages and whatnot. What for?

Well, you’re just in luck my friend, because the Sony PRS-505/SC Digital eBook Book Reader is just what the guy who used to work at the library prescribed. He doesn’t work at the library anymore since his job was probably eliminated thanks to your insistence on reading digitally. See what I did there? Yeah.

In all seriousness, this is a wicked product, and we like it a lot. We’ve played around with it and I would totally recommend it. The ability to walk around with over 160 books is wild, and for those of us with long commutes, this is more than welcome. We’re already deaf from blaring earbuds, a book or 160 would be nice.

I already own the Sony eReader and it came with a chance to order many dozens of literary classics absolutely free. As a retired professor of English, I've often wanted to add to my collection of books, literally bound volumes, and I've accumulated quite a few, but now with the little Sony gadget I been able to read some of the ones that I've never seen; I have the earlier eBook of Sony which has a capacity of, they say, about 80 books; the newer version, which advertises double that number, is no problem for me with my earlier version because I can plug in a microchip SD card (which my camera also uses) and double the capacity of the Sony. The Sony, itself, is a well-made little machine that is easy to use, but there are a couplell of problems to consider:
First of all, a competitive machine, the K-------, I really forgot the name just now, is being promoted by Amazon, and it is somewhat larger because of its keyboard, and some other gadgetry. On the plus side, the Kincaid(have I got it right?) is being pushed as having access to all sorts of eBook sources, from libraries to both free and commercial outlets. Sony, on the other hand, is tight-lipped on this point; when I inquired at their internet store, I was told that only books provided by Sony could be used. I find this hard to believe. Can anyone tell me of another reliable source of eBooks for my Sony?

I recommend you look on eBay. I found five sets of material by just searching for "ebooks DVD Sony reader". People are selling books formatted for either the Amazon Kindle or the Sony reader and perhaps even a third reader. They are already formatted for download to the reader and are sold on DVD media. That should give you a couple of other sources of material to read on the reader.

Will this device take books I download in txt, richtext, Word or PDF? In other words, will it read only books I have to buy from the sellers or will it also read the many on line free books and articles? How easy is downloading and then reading.
