Tarantino Returns with Death Proof

Grindhouse, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s pulp double-feature, was an amazingly satisfying theatergoing experience. It packed two gross, over-the-top films into one sitting, providing overindulgence for lovers of pulp cinema everywhere. Now that the movies are coming to DVD, they’re nice enough to give you the option to buy one or the other of the films, just in case you don’t want to sit through two movies at a time.
My choice, if you were just going to buy one, is definitely Tarantino’s Death Proof. Starring Kurt Russell as a sleazebag stuntman who gets off on killing people on the road, it features perhaps the most exciting and amazing real-life, CGI-free car chase ever put to film. Sure, there’s a bit too much talking at the beginning, and there are loose ends that don’t get tied up, but you really can’t argue with the 15-minute car chase sequence. It’s basically the reason big screen TVs were made, if you ask me. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really owe it to yourself to check it out.
