There is no shortage of home theater receivers on the market today. As technology advances, the bells and whistles added to receivers also increases the asking price. Some flagship receivers cost as much five grand! Obviously, most people can’t afford such extravagant receivers. Bummer for them. However, the good thing about technology is that there is a trickle down effect. The bells and whistles of the flagship receivers will eventually trickle down to the more affordable, entry level receivers.
The Denon AVR-1609 is one such entry level receiver. Don’t be turned off by it being an entry level AVR. It is very capable, and would suit most people just fine. Right out of the gate, it comes with Audyssey, something that a few years ago was for the more expensive receivers and processors. For those that don’t know, Audyssey is a room calibrating software that sets your speakers for optimal performance based on your room. It’s really great stuff.
In terms of features, the AVR-1609 is stacked. It has 2 HDMI 1.3a inputs for rich, vibrant 1080p video, as well as 2 component video inputs. Despite the modest 75 watts per. channel, fidelity is loud, crisp and clear. Satellite radio and iPod integration is a standard affair for any AVR these days, and this one is no different.
The AVR-1609 is one of the most affordable 7.1 receivers on the market today. Those on a budget looking for a quality AVR need not look further, this is it.
