The HTC G1 aka Google Android is Unveiled

android

Earlier today, T-Mobile and Google unveiled the highly anticipated HTC G1 aka the Google Android. The Android is set to compete directly with the iPhone.

With a gorgeous 3.17″ color touchscreen that runs in HVGA (480×320) resolution, the G1 is certainly a looker. However, it’s more than just a pretty face. The G1 is chock full of apps. There will be an Android Market that will allow the downloads of various Android apps for the phone. In addition, Amazon’s MP3 store will be preloaded on every G1, giving users the access to download 6 million DRM-free tracks. You will need a Wi-Fi connection for that. You will also be able to preview music tracks over T-Mobile’s network.

Two other interesting apps are Ecorio and ShopSavvy. With Ecorio, you can keep track of your daily grind and have have a mobile carbon footprint. ShopSavvy helps the user with comparative shopping.

This is pretty cool. I want one!
  • As soon as my iPhone AT&T contract is up (I have another 9 or 10 months) - I want a gPhone. I hope by then they have an all virtual keyboard tho. I don't need the extra bulk of a slide out keyboard.

More things I want which are not addressed here is:
    • streaming outgoing video - like Qik
    • tethering a laptop to the connection
    • create a wireless hotspot from the connection
    • VoIP calling
    • podcatcher
    • streaming from Pandora & Last.FM
    • live sampling and purchase of music from Amazon
    • streaming movie purchase

Can I get that? in 9 months, please?

    Otherwise, I'm going for a Nokia N96
  • ill be waiting for that one, hope it will be available on christmas! I'll be checking on other phones as well while waiting~

Waiting on the G1? It's available right now, but in store only however.
  • G1 seems to be an interesting phone. Its applications and specs are nice. I love its full QWERTY 5-row keypad.

Well, iPhone seems to have a competitor now.
