The “Lost” Final Fantasy Finally Arrives

Final Fantasy III

When most American gamers think of Final Fantasy III, they think of the classic SNES RPG that was released here in 1994. Not everyone knows that that was actually Final Fantasy VI, released here in the states as III due to the fact that the real FFIII was never translated for American audiences. It’s a lost gem of RPG history, and it’s taken over a decade for it to finally make its way to our shores. But it finally has.

Final Fantasy III, the real one, has just been released for the Nintendo DS. Not only that, but you’ll get a lot more than a straight port of an old SNES game for your money. The graphics have been completely revamped and the environments have been updated to 3D. Both of the DS’s screens are utilized, making this a much richer experience than the original. It’s a great example of where one of the most famous franchises in gaming history started from, and one that’s sure to suck you in whether you’ve played every FF game released or if this is your intro to the series.
