The Neo-PDP Panel From Panasonic - The New Plasma King

Panasonic has thrown down the gauntlet to their competitors. No messing about for them it seems. Just because Pioneer has left the plasma business, does not mean that they will take it easy and rest on their laurels. The Viera S1 Plasma Series, aka the NEO PDP displays they showed to the public at CES in January have started to ship.

In a word, they are impressive. A coworker recently bought the 42″ version, and he’s blown away by the picture quality. Once you go plasma, there is no turning back.

Currently, the displays come in 4 sizes. 42″, 46″, 50″ and 54″. Knowing Panasonic, a 58″ and 65″ might be released in the future.

Picture quality on these displays are just stellar. Deep black levels and excellent color saturation that isn’t overblown like many LCD displays. The icing on the cake is that these plasmas use less energy than comparable plasmas of the same size.

Pairing this up with the DMP-BD60 Blu-ray player would be a terrific combo. You could control both the player and the display with the Viera Link. For those of you who are Harmony challenged, this lets you control your Panasonic Viera devices with one remote.

Now that the Kuro is no more, Panasonic will reign supreme as the undisputed leader of plasma technology. Thankfully, they continue to fight the good fight, and refuse to abandon superior technology. Well played Panasonic, well played.

CNET, recently took a look at this display. Check out the video below.
