The Robert Cray Band Visits J&R

ROBERT CRAY
ROBERT CRAY
defies the label of Bluesman.  There are touches of Reggae, Gospel, and R&B in his sound.  And there is traditional and non-traditional flavor in his songs.  This is not strictly your “she done left me” genre of blues.  The band’s performance of “Twenty”, the poignant story of a soldier in Iraq, made that clear.

On September 27 at J&R Music World, The Robert Cray Band displayed musical range and great stage presence.  Robert Cray has been on the music scene for close to thirty years, and his current bandmates have been with him since 1991.  They play with the balance, clarity, and tightness that fifteen years of touring engenders.

Today’s performance was broadcast live on WBGO-FM, the local jazz and blues giant whose partnership with J&R has brought some exceptionally fine music to lower Manhattan.  This live show was surely a highlight.  For more of The Robert Cray Band, pick up their new live CD “LIVE From Across The Pond”, and see them as part of the current Eric Clapton Tour.  The Clapton Tour is at Madison Square Garden, September 28, 29, 30, and continues through October and November.
