The BDP-S550 is one of the latest blu-ray decks from Sony. It is profile 2.0, so you’ll have access to all the BD-Live goodies available on all the latest blu-ray discs. The neat thing about this player is the fact that it has 7.1 analog outputs. There are some people who have legacy receivers and pre-pros that do not have HDMI inputs. Well, the BDP-S550 has them covered. Of course, those who have HDMI connectivity need not worry, this deck has an HDMI output like any modern day blu-ray player would.
In terms of features, the BDP-S550 does it all. Sonically, all bases are covered. It can internally decode the lossless audio codecs Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. If you have a modern receiver or pre-pro, and would prefer to decode the lossless codecs via the receiver or pre-pro, you can bitstream the audio codecs directly to the receiver or pre-pro to decode for pure audio bliss.
In terms of video quality, it goes without saying, it’s perfect. 1080p/24 is here like any state of the art, modern blu-ray deck. You really can’t go wrong here.
