I bought three LogiTech Harmony 1000 Universal Remotes based on their design and sales brochures and my positive experience with LogiTech's less expensive universal remotes (the Model 520 and 550).
Unfortunately the Model 1000 was a nightmare to set up and now is piled in my electronic "junk" drawer of items that failed to live up to its promise....
The LogiTech phone support staff were friendly, but unable to ever get my Home Theater systems (using common Samsung Plasma TV, Sharp LCD TV, Pioneer Elite receivers, Yamaha surround sound speaker bar to correctly function using this universal remote. It took over 24 hours to even get the LogiTech website to recognize my remotes so I could begin the process of programming them for my specific components and wiring patterns. One finally began to function correctly, only to lose its programming after sitting in the recharging dock over night. So - a great concept, but poor product execution.... So just discarded in my drawer of obsolete electronic products...

Sounds familiar except I've been fighting with mine for over a year. I had the same experience. Basically useless.

I've been using mine for a few months now without any issues. It was easy to setup. I use it with my TV, Surround Receiver, DVD Player, XBox 360 and PVR. It turns on and configures each device for the task I choose (Watch TV, Paly a Game, watch a DVD, etc.).

For those who were disappointed, I wanted to mention that I also received a different model universal Logitech and it was a nightmare to set up, so I don't use it. I have been using a Sima model for years (Sur-47) and since it's practically falling apart now (years of being dropped multiple times, still works but controls are a little less responsive now) I'm looking for a new one.

Anyway thanks for the comments here, because I will probably go back to Sima for a replacement. It also has both LCD and hard buttons in combo, and RF as well. Not quite as pretty as the Logitech, but for starters you don't have to hook it up to your computer for some kind of useless setup (as I experienced with the Logitech).

p.s. to my own note - the Sima isn't perfect (why I'm still investigating). I'd also like a little more flexibility in which controls I bring over from the unit remotes and how to name them. Anyone know of something that can do this? (e.g., my "Time/Disp" button brings up the cable menu, and the "Menu" button brings up the list of shows recorded - because I couldn't rename those buttons or others)
