Time for Akimbo on TV

Akimbo

Akimbo, the first Internet video-on-demand service for TV, announced at CES 2007 that it is working with Yahoo to deliver the best of Internet video directly to the TV via the Akimbo Service.

This has been an emerging trend at both CES and Macworld Expo in developing products to transmit Internet video (or video downloads) directly to your TV. Apple introduced AppleTV at Macworld Expo for playing iTunes videos on a television.

Akimbo is more encompassing. Akimbo is a service provider that, along with the use of a special player, delivers Internet video directly to your TV using worldwide sources. Explore programming from over 100 channels providing sports, major TV channels, and movie sources. Movielink allows you to download the latest available movies on demand, much like you would with NetFlix but there are no discs. Akimbo requires subscription to the service at a monthly fee and use of the RCA Akimbo player (also at a monthly fee).
It’s easy. Start with a Media Center PC with Windows XP Media Center Edition. Download and install Akimbo software and register with the Akimbo Service on your Media Center PC. Akimbo requires a high-speed Internet connection, such as cable or DSL. The RCA Akimbo Player connects seamlessly to your current broadband DSL or cable Internet service through your home network. Download selected video programs to the player then connect player to your TV set.
