You don’t have to be an old-timer to remember when gasoline was cheap. The same is true with electronics. Remember when DVD players cost hundreds of dollars? Well, now you can buy a Coby DVD209 for $24.99!

We were reminded of this by Philly-based blogger BadLuckCity, who recently published a vintage J&R ad. The 1984 ad in Rolling Stone Magazine also reminds us that blank cassette tapes and car stereo were huge sellers. Now, of course, music buffs rip CDs and car manufacturers are stepping all over themselves to announce new iPod-based sound systems.

The 1984 J&R ad lists a cordless Freedom Phone for $269.99; you can now buy a Uniden cordless phone for $14.99!

Thanks to BadLuckCity for the reality check. Times change, but J&R still offers the best prices— from the 70’s to the 21st Century.
