It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: New records. There’s always a need to create the perfect soundtrack for walking around in this town. This week you’ve got a world of new choices. Rebellious rock is at the forefront, if you discount the new John Mayer album, Continuum. If you like soft, easy-listening rock by a guy who’s dated Jessica Simpson, Mayer’s got what you need.
For those of you who need rock music that gets you up & moving, there’s plenty to pick from. The latest from The Rapture, Pieces Of The People We Love, will get you moving with the latest dance-punk. They’ll be performing tonight at the Apple Store on Prince St. — it’s FREE so don’t miss it!
If you want dancy rock with more punch, Audioslave’s new Revelations has an incredibly funky feel, combined with the hard guitar crunch that makes you bang your head.
Speaking of headbanging, Iron Maiden just released A Matter Of Life And Death. These old-school metal troopers are still around and still faithful to the classic sound they created.
Old-school heavy metal isn’t everybody’s thing, though. For those of us who prefer newer sounds, there’s the Brazilian Girls’ newest, Talk To La Bomb. They’re at the Spiegeltent on South Street Seaport (Pier 17) this Thursday, and they’re worth your time & money to check out.
Pinback’s mellow punk rock is on display with Nautical Antiques, a collection of B-sides and demos.
Amputechture by The Mars Volta is dynamic and deep prog-rock, while
Magic Potion by the Black Keys has raw, gritty blues-rock hard-workin’ men listen to while kncoking back beer and shooting pool at their favorite bar.
Whatever your tastes are, there’s a band catering to it.
