When you go seeking gifts for Valentine’s Day the first things that pop up are jewelry, roses, candy, and champagne. Honestly if you’re in a relatively new relationship these things are almost sure fire winners. For those of us that have been in it for the long haul, our significant others probably have enough jewelry for every digit, a rose bush in the backyard, stock in a chocolate factory, and enough champagne for a fountain. Why not try something a little different this year? Gadgets are fun and can be enjoyed for years to come. Let’s take a look at a few of my current favorites.
1 – Roku 2 XS
I don’t know anyone that doesn’t like movies. One of the best ways to watch them is with a streaming device like the Roku 2 XS. This tiny, unobtrusive device allows you to connect to the best in Movies, TV Shows, Live Sports, Music, and more via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Got Netflix streaming service? You can watch it on a Roku. Got HuluPlus? Yup you can watch that too. Oh and did I mention games? The Roku 2 XS comes with the Full Version of Angry Birds. At the great price of $99, this one can’t be beat as a gift that will keep on giving.
2 – Kindle Fire
Man, there are a lot of these to choose from! It’s always tough just picking one but for cost effectiveness I have to go with the Kindle Fire. A beautiful 7” multi-touch screen, coupled with 8GB (6GB available for user content) of storage, and free Amazon Cloud storage makes this one a winner. With access to movies, books, magazines, and thousands of apps the Kindle Fire provides hours of entertainment for him or her.
3 – Panasonic DMCLX5K
With the cameras available in cell phones getting better and better, digital cameras need to be something special to keep pace. Even with all that, digital cameras have brought the fun back into taking pictures. These digital wonders come in many forms from the point and shoot to the SLR and everything in between. One of my favorites is the PAN DMCLX5K. This 10MP camera is a full featured beast great for the quick snapshot yet with enough manual control for the amateur enthusiast to decide how they want to take their shot. Solidly constructed yet not a paperweight, this is a great gift to save those Valentines memories.
4 – Apple iPod Touch
Let’s face it folks, the iPod is king. When looking for an MP3 multimedia player look no further than the iPod Touch. Available in 16, 32, and 64GB capacities, these cleanly designed touch-screen devices combine the best of all media worlds into a compact package. Easy to use and responsive, the iPod Touch is awesome entertainment on the go.
Now I’m something of a romantic so there will be some champagne, there might even be flowers. That’s not all there will be though. There will be a smart gadget for my sweetheart that she’ll remember long after the flowers have wilted and the champagne is finished.
