Vampire Weekend Rocket to the Spotlight

It’s kind of amazing, in this age of the internet, how fast bands seem to explode on the national scene these days. It’s not like the old days, when a single had to be played on the radio to get the kids excited about a new band. No, now all it takes is some good blog coverage and before you know it a band is a household name. Take Vampire Weekend, for example; near-unheard of mere months ago, they’re slated to play live on Saturday Night Live this weekend. What gives?
Well, the reason for the speedy ascent has much to do with the incredibly infection indie pop that Vampire Weekend plays. Nearly every song on their debut, self-titled album has the potential to get stuck in your head for days. They’re the ultimate in deceptively simple pop hooks, and it’s that hummability that’s gotten them to the top so fast. So you can thank the blogs for getting them to where they are today, but really, it’s still all about the music. Just like the good old days.
