As an artist, Stevie Wonder needs no introduction. Starting his career at Motown at the tender each of 11, he has had one of the longest and most successful careers in the music industry. The awards and accolades are staggering. 22 Grammys, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and even an Academy Award in 1984 for best song, which was I Just Called To Say I Love You in the hit movie The Woman In Red.
Picking an album from an artist like Stevie Wonder was no small feat. However, I narrowed my choice down to Music of My Mind. I chose this album for several reasons. For one, this was a transitional period for Stevie. He was no longer “little Stevie”. He was 21 years old, and this was the beginning of what is known as the classic period of Stevie Wonder. He started incorporating a synthesizer and talkbox in his music, and he generally took more risks as an artist, instead of defaulting to the classic Motown sound he was known for. People know Stevie is a pianist, but he is also a prolific drummer and he played the drums on this album.
The second reason I chose this album was simple, it’s sonically wonderful. This is a reissue is 180gram vinyl edition, so it would make a fine addition for any vinyl enthusiast.
Keep spinning.
