The Vudu is an upcoming set-top box that’s set to revolutionize the video-on-demand marketplace. What is it, you ask? Well, it’s a device that will be able to download movies right to your TV. What makes it unique? Sit down, son.
First of all, the Vudu has agreements signed with seven major studios and a bunch of indie distributors as well, giving the catalogue a 5,000 movie stock at launch. In addition, it will utilize BitTorrent-like peer-to-peer technology to get downloads moving fast without costing the company a ton. It’s a new and exciting way to distribute movies, and as long as the price of both the device and the movies themselves are reasonable it stands to make a huge impact.
Being introduced to the public only this weekend, Vudu has been in development for some time, as shown by their rare contracts with the studios. It’s due to hit store shelves this summer, so you don’t have long to wait. Remember the name Vudu; you’ll be hearing a lot more about it in the coming months.
