Being able to watch TV on a band that wraps over your eyes is the kind of thing that seemed very futuristic in the 1980s. Now that we’re actually able to do it, it seems that we weren’t so keen on the idea after all. Not being able to see what’s around you while you use them makes them a lot less practical than initially imagined (would you want to be unable to see or hear on the subway?), but they can still be cool for use at home or on airplanes.
The MyVu MA0481 Personal Media Viewer Universal Edition is one of the better models out there. It’s got built-in noise-canceling earbuds, which are great for travelers who frequent airplanes, and it’s lightweight enough to be comfortable to wear for the length of a full movie. You can plug it right into your laptop, DVD player, iPod, or camcorder to watch video on the go quickly and easily. Sure, it might not be the most stylish or practical thing you own, but at least you’ll be living up to your childhood expectations of what the future would be like.
