We Are The Pool

Some of the best shows we saw last year happened at McCarren Park Pool, in Greenpoint. We love the place, as we’ve mentioned in the past. McCarren Pool is a public space, but the shows are being run by a private company. Local musicians are concerned about this great venue being a corporate cash cow, instead of a community space. As a result, they’ve formed Pool Aid. They hope to get people into the idea of McCarren Pool being run by and for local musicians.
To raise awareness, they’ve made a parody of “We Are The World” called “We Are The Pool.” It’s got performances by local and indie favorites like Nada Surf, The Giraffes and Maplewood. If supporting these guys means lower ticket prices, we’re all for it. Should you decide you agree, the release party for “We Are The Pool” is happening next Tuesday, Feb. 27th at Union Pool Hall in Williamsburg. Check it out & show a little support — or just go for the beer and the atmosphere. It’s a nice place, plus they have bocce ball.
