What’s Happening in Music This Week

Los Lonley BoysIt’s hard to stay cool in this heat, but having some cool new music helps. For example, if you’re looking for a down-home kind of cool, you can enjoy the latest roots-rock storytelling efforts by Los Lonely Boys. The groups mixes Tejano sounds with traditional rock and country playing, for a sound that’s been enjoyed by all the tastemakers. Their latest, Sacred, is worth checking out for a new take on old-school American roots music.

Remember Alien Ant Farm? They’re still around and releasing new stuff. Their latest is called Up In The Attic, and includes the same fun rock sound that earned them some hits. If that isn’t enough for ya, you can revisit the ’90s even further with Collection: Best Of Third Eye Blind.

Boot Camp ClikBoot Camp Clik drops their latest, The Last Stand, giving you another chance to hear Brooklyn’s finest underground hip-hop stars come together. Krayzie Bone brings together more of the greatest hip-hoppers with the 100% Pure Thug Tour — it’s got appearances by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, The Game, Fat Joe, even Ice T.

If you aren’t looking for music that hypes you up, maybe you’d like something a bit nicer and more mellow. If so, there’s a lot to choose from today. For instance, you can check out Tremendo Cache, a posthumous release by Celia Cruz. She brought salsa music to the world; her distinctive voice and sound helped spread the music outside Cuba and the Cuban-American community, making her a goodwill ambassador to much of the world. This new collection of hits by a legendary singer will get your feet moving and your butt shaking. That may not be a good idea, with the current weather; if you want to stay cool, John Pizzarelli has you covered. The popular jazz guitarist revisits Frank Sinatra, one of the Godfathers Of Cool, with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra in Dear Mr. Sinatra.
