Wii Fit Makes Exercise Part of the Game

Wii Fit

The Nintendo Wii has broken all sorts of sales records and remained near impossible to find on store shelves for over 6 months because it’s done what most other consoles have failed to do: appealed to people other than the young, male gamer set. By expanding the gaming market to older people and women, Nintendo has gained huge groups of customers that Sony and Microsoft have been basically ignoring for years. Seeing that success, they’re taking it a step further with Wii Fit.

Wii Fit is a new controller for the Wii in the form of an exercise pad. It allows for “games” to motivate people to exercise, turning the Wii from a basic games console into a personal trainer, yoga instructor, and much more. It really expands the boundaries for what a game console really is, making it more than just a device that plays shooters and sports games. When it comes out this fall it’s almost guaranteed to be a hit with the same people who don’t know the difference between Solid Snake and a toilet snake. How long do you think it’ll be before Sony and Microsoft catch on?
