Lower Manhattan is a celebrity watcher’s paradise. We were lucky enough to catch Will Smith filming his latest film a few blocks up the street from us. Yes, we mean that Will Smith: The famous pop-rapper with several hit albums, who’s also a world-famous actor. To us, though, he’ll always be The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. We’ve got pictures here, check ‘em out (and see if you can spot the person who had way too much cosmetic surgery):
We aren’t sure but we think he was working on scenes for I Am Legend, which IMDB says is currently filming. I Am Legend centers on the last normal human on Earth; a strange disease has turned everyone else into zombie-like, vampirish creatures who can’t face daylight. The last man spends his days killing as many vampire-zombies as he can, while they hibernate in the shadows. Ironically, he becomes a scary monster to the monsters. In the new vampire-zombie culture that starts to form, he becomes a terrifying legend, a boogeyman — as frightening to them as a vampire would be to us.
It makes sense, if you think about it: If the world really was full of vampire-zombies, they’d be the normal ones. A person who could be outside when the sun is up, see themselves in the mirror, touch a holy symbol - anything the creatures can’t - would be the scary, freakish one. Makes you wonder about what really makes something “normal,” doesn’t it? “I Am Legend” was also the first sci-fi story to create plausible scientific explanations for the behavior of the mythical monsters. It’s never been directly adapted for movies, but the plot’s been used before — in the 60s it was used in a film starring Vincent Price, and in the 70s it was reused in a cult hit with Charleton Heston. The book has also been a huge influence on later zombie movies; it inspired everything from Night Of The Living Dead to 28 Days Later. It’s a modern classic and we’re hoping Will Smith does it justice.
