The issue of long cable runs to get your entertainment distributed through the home has always proven a daunting endeavor at best. At worst, well, for anyone that’s had to drill, attach, and connect multiple cables you know of what I speak. Actiontec, a company that specializes in wireless technology, has taken the plunge into Wifi High-Definition transmission with MyWirelessTV system.
Consisting of a Wifi Transmitter and Receiver unit, the system offers discreet, secure, signal transfer at up to 1080P, that will not interfere with any of your pre-existing Wifi networks. The initial kit allows for hook up of one HDMI equipped source to one HDMI equipped Television. Additional transmitters and receivers can be purchased separately for true multiroom wireless viewing. Control of the system is maintained via the included remote. This remote is only used for source switching. It will not control your components. That has to be done by the components specific remote or for those us that have them, a good Universal Remote Control.
Signal quality was quite good and the cable box we used responded well to the controls through the supplied IR Blaster. We didn’t quite put it to its 150 foot maximum range, but we did get a few walls in the way to make up for it. Our network acted like it wasn’t even there. I would have liked to put it to the test on an XBOX360 but we don’t have one of those in the office (Why don’t we?). The Actiontec MyWirelessTV would make a good addition to any system as a way to make your entertainment available anywhere in the home.
