Xegg is a Seriously Strange MP3 Player

There are plenty of portable audio players out there, but how many of them really play with convention and change from the standard form? Not many. But if nothing else, the Xegg music player won’t ever be accused of being just another MP3 player. Shaped like an egg, it might not fit comfortably in your pocket or stay on your desk without rolling off, but hey, it’s no iPod.

Featuring external speakers like the recent Samsung K5, the Xegg can be used as a mini stereo, sharing your music with everyone around. It’s great for your home or office, where the egg conveniently splits apart and turns into two speakers, but I would advise against sharing your passion for Liza Minnelli with a crowded A train. It loads up with music via a MiniSD card and then will shuffle through your music like, well, an iPod Shuffle. The lack of a screen makes navigation pretty much impossible, but if you’re looking for a fun, quirky music player as an alternative to the ubiquitous iPod this could be the one for you.

Two things to consider: There is no standard audio-out on this MP3 player. There are only two 2.5mm stereo jacks, one for each speaker. I believe these will work with headphones, but they’ll require a 2.5mm plug.

Also, X2Gen has closed due to Ch 11 bankruptcy (see http://www.x2gen.com) as of November 2007, so there will be no support or warranty on their products.
