Yahoo! Underground Really Wants to Have a Finger on Someone’s Pulse

Isn’t it adorable when your older, dorky cousin tries to hang out with you and your friends? They use outdated slang and try to bring up subjects that they think you’ll be interested in, but are just off the mark enough to know that they crammed before their interaction with you by reading Rolling Stone. Well, Yahoo is that older cousin. They just launched Yahoo! Underground, and it’s pretty clear that they want to be hip with the young folks.

The confusion starts pretty quickly, however. The main stories, well, it might have just been when I caught the site, but every single main story had to do with gay rodeos for some reason. Now I have nothing against gay rodeos, but I’m just not sure how much screen real estate it deserves on this, the first day of Yahoo! Underground’s existence.

But hey, you’ve got to love that awkward cousin for trying, right? And maybe once he hangs out with the kids for a bit longer he’ll get a better handle on what they’re into. One can only hope so.

One of the site’s new features is called JumpCut Video, a little program that allows you to edit other videos together and call it your own. It’s a neat little gimmick, but it’s tough to see too many really awesome videos coming out of this. It should be good for compilations of many similar videos, however.
