On Wednesday, baseball commissioner Bud Selig gave New York sports fans a gift. He announced that the 2008 All-Star Game will be played in our own historic Yankee Stadium. It’s a fitting farewell for the house that Ruth built. Yankee Stadium is a New York institution, a landmark and a great place of hang out on a spring afternoon all at once. Sadly, they’ll start knocking it down soon to put up a new Stadium that’s bigger & more modern. Ironically, they’re putting up the new Yankee Stadium right across from where the original one stands now. From the nosebleed seats at the new stadium you’ll be able to look across the way & see where the Yankees played the games that made them legends.
We’ve got a hardcore Yankees fan here at RNYK. You should see this guy’s office — he’s got a a Yankee pinstripe mousepad, a Yankee jersey iPod skin and a small & DVD player set up. Guess what he was playing on it? A Yankees retrospective. (We tried to get a picture of it, but he wouldn’t let us. Of course, maybe should’ve asked his permission, instead of barging in with a camera.) One Mets fan is on staff here, and he’s got his official baseball-shaped Mets LCD TV set up, too. We’re just telling you that so you don’t think we’re biased.
